Bring history to life in the classroom with Traveling Trunks from the Fort Collins Museum & Discovery Science Center. For a $10.00 fee per one-week checkout, groups may check out trunks filled with reproduction artifacts and educational activities for classroom exploration.

Cheyenne Bison Legend with Bison Hide Trunk

Students can sit on an actual, full-size bison hide and listen as the group leader reads The Great Race, by Paul Goble, based on an orally-passed traditionally Cheyenne Nation story.

Lewis and Clark Discovery Trunk

Designed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this trunk contains posters, books, music selections and dozens of replica artifacts to recreate the expedition in your classroom.

Colorado Wildlife: Tracks, Scat and Fur Trunk

Feel the furs of several Colorado mammals essential to human life in the region, including bison and beaver. Replica scat and tracks help students learn how to identify the signs animals leave in the environment. An inkpad and worksheets allows students to make their own “field guide” to tracks.

native american trunk

Explore the past and present to see how climate, geography and resources influence people and culture; on the plains and around the globe.

explore archaeology

Dig in to the exciting world of ancient mysteries as your students learn about the tools and techniques used by archaeologists.

1905 One-Room Schoolhouse Trunk

The most popular trunk with second grade teachers, this contains pens and inkwells for students to practice penmanship flourishes, recite poems from McGuffy’s Readers and write lessons on slates with slate pencils.

Fort Collins Trolley trunk

Climb aboard this fun trunk with a conductor’s cap, trolley tokens, and dozens of other objects and photographs from Fort Collins beloved municipal railroad. Students will learn trolley riders’ etiquette and can also color, cut and fold their own model of Car 21.

trunk check out procedures

Trunks are available for one-week checkout periods for a $10.00 rental fee. No more than two trunks may be checked out by the same school in a one week period. A fee of $5.00/day will be charged for late trunk returns.

Trunks are available for pickup at the Fort Collins Museum & Discovery Science Center’s lobby desk during business hours.

A loan contract and inventory sheet must be signed at the time of pickup and return. The contract holds the borrower responsible for the cost of repair or replacement of damaged or lost trunks or trunk items.

All proceeds from trunk checkout fees are used for replenishing consumable supplies and general maintenance of the trunks.
